MARIETTA, Ohio — Otterbein University defeated Marietta College 3-1 Tuesday (Oct. 25) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball action at Ban Johnson Arena. The Pioneers fall to 17-14 overall and 2-6 in the OAC. Otterbein improves to 16-11 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
Marietta won game one, 25-18. Otterbein then won the next three games 27-25, 25-19 and 25-14. The Pioneers remain in eighth place in the OAC standings with one match left to play. The top eight teams qualify for the OAC Tournament.
Playing her final match at home, senior
Mallory Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) led all players with 14 kills.
Hunter Barnes (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo) and
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) each chipped in with 11 kills. Freshman
Cassie Staten (Athens, Ohio/Athens) dished out a match-high 40 assists.
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) posted a pair of blocks, while
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) and
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) collected 14 digs each along the back line. Vodopich and
Amber Mauric (Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) had nine digs and Staten added eight.
