MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team lost to visiting Heidelberg University, 3-0, Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon. The Student Princes posted game scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-15 and improved to 18-8 overall and 6-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta falls to 17-13 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.
With two games remaining in the regular season the Pioneers are tied for seventh place in the conference standings. The top eight teams qualify for the OAC Tournament.
For the second straight match Marietta struggled on offense collecting 33 kills and committing 28 attack errors. Heidelberg on the other hand had 37 kills and only seven errors.
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) led the Pioneers with 12 kills.
Mallory Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) had six kills, while
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) and
Hunter Barnes (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo) had five kills apiece. Setter
Cassie Staten (Athens, Ohio/Athens) dished out 25 assists.
Defensively,
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) recorded a team-best 16 digs.
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) and
Amber Mauric (Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) each chipped in with seven digs.
