Women's Soccer plays to scoreless draw with Heidelberg

MARIETTA, Ohio — Scoring opportunities were few and far between as Marietta College and Heidelberg University finished in a scoreless double overtime draw Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The Pioneers are now 7-5-5 overall and 1-2-4 in the OAC, while Heidelberg moves to 6-8-3 overall and 1-5-1 in the OAC.

The Pioneers enter the final week of the regular season in seventh place in the conference standings. The top six qualify for the OAC Tournament. With two matches remaining, both against teams in the top four, Marietta will need at least one upset to get into the league tournament.

Marietta's best scoring chance came midway through the first half. Raeli Barnes (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) fired a shot from point blank range that Heidelberg keeper Alexandra Farmer managed to stop.

While the Student Princes had a 6-4 edge in shots on goal, the vast majority of Heidelberg's 13 total shots came from long range. At the end of regulation both teams had taken 11 shots.

Heidelberg got off a pair of shots in the first overtime, while Marietta had one shot in each of the two extra periods.

Senior Cassie Wint (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) anchored Marietta's back line with the assistance of freshmen Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), Brittany Palm (Prosperity, Pa./McGuffey), Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and Meredith Snow (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes).

Senior Sam Kelley (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) started in goal for the Pioneers and made one save before turning the net minding duties over to Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) in the 25th minute. Tenney notched five saves in 85-plus minutes. Framer went the distance in goal for Heidelberg and had four saves.

Each team took 13 shots in the match. Heidelberg had a considerable edge in corner kicks, 12-3.
