WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster defeated Marietta College 3-0 Friday (Oct. 21) evening in nonconference volleyball action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 17-12 on the season, while the Fighting Scots improve to 15-7 on the season.
Wooster was firing on all cylinders right from the start. The Scots hit a blazing .519 in the first game recording 16 kills and only two attack errors as they cruised to a 25-12 win. Wooster completed the sweep with scores of 25-19 and 25-17 in the next two games.
Marietta struggled on offense committing 29 attack errors in the match. The Pioneers finished with 30 kills and a .010 hitting percentage. Senior
Mallory Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) led the Pioneers with eight kills.
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) and
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) finished with seven and six kills, respectively.
Delaney Dawson (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and
Cassie Staten (Athens, Ohio/Athens) split the setting duties. Dawson had 14 assists and Staten notched 12.
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) posted 13 digs and
Amber Mauric (Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) had eight digs.
