COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital University scored three first half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Marietta College Tuesday (Oct. 18) evening in women's soccer action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 7-5-4 overall and 1-2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital improves to 7-6-1 and 4-1-1 in the OAC.
The Crusaders made the most of their scoring opportunities in the first half. Capital took four shots in the period and tallied three goals. Claire Quinn scored an unassisted goal off a free kick in the fourth minute.
Mary Bushee, with an assist from Caroline Hester, made it 2-0 with a goal at the 22:07 mark, while Becca Cartmill benefited from a Pioneer turnover to make it 3-0 five minutes later.
McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley),
Sophia Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples) and
Ashley Montgomery (Senecaville, Ohio/Meadowbrook) each had shots on goal for the Pioneers but Capital managed to keep a clean sheet. A trio of Crusaders played in goal and each made one save.
MaryKate Corum (Cleveland, Ohio/Normandy) made her first start of the season in goal for Marietta and played the first 45 minutes.
Sam Kelley (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and
Alex Kirsch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) split time in goal in the second half. Each made one save in the match.
For the match, Capital outshot the Pioneers 9-7. The Crusaders held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
