ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team lost to the University of Mount by the score of 1-0 Tuesday (Oct. 11) evening. It was the second straight 1-0 loss for the Pioneers dropping Marietta to 7-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. The Purple Raiders improve to 3-6-3 on the season and 1-3 in the OAC.
Marietta just missed an early goal when
Andy Rolfes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) hit the post in the 15th minute. Mount Union scored the game's lone goal five minutes before halftime. Jon Schroeder headed in a cross from Josh Lewis for the game-winner.
The Pioneers stayed on the attack in the second half. Marietta outshot the Purple Raiders 5-2 in the period but Mount keeper Dylan Lias notched the clean sheet with four saves after halftime.
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown, Ohio/Big Walnut) had one save in goal for the Pioneers.
For the match, Marietta outshot the Raiders 12-8, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
