BEREA, Ohio — Baldwin Wallace University scored three goals in each half to beat Marietta College 6-1 Saturday (Oct. 1) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer. The Pioneers fall to 6-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets are 7-4-1 and 1-0 OAC.
BW struck quickly when Kelly Gough tallied an unassisted goal in the third minute of the match. Marietta's
Raeli Barnes (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) leveled the match with an unassisted goal in the 31st minute. It was her sixth goal of the season.
Rachel Bender scored the first of her three goals less than three minutes to put the Yellow jackets in front for good. Alex Elliott made it 3-1 with an assist from Courtney Schultz in the 40th minute.
Bender notched the first two goals of the second half pushing the margin to 5-1. Schultz and Elliott picked up assists on Bender's first of the second half, while Cassandra Waickman assisted on her second. Hope Martin's unassisted goal in the 84th minute finished the scoring for BW.
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) went the distance in goal for Marietta stopping eight Yellow Jacket shots. Sophia Weidner had four saves in goal for BW in just under 88 minutes. Julianna Rubin played the final two minutes without a save.
For the match, Baldwin Wallace outshot the Pioneers 18-7. The Yellow Jackets took seven corner kicks, while Marietta had none.
