MARIETTA, Ohio — Heidelberg University outscored Marietta College 23-9 in the fourth quarter en route to a come from behind 61-50 victory Saturday (Jan. 23) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 9-8 overall and 3-7 in the OAC. Heidelberg improves to 7-10 on the season and 5-5 in league play.
Amisha Herd (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum) led all scorers with 22 points hitting 10-of-19 shots from the floor. She also tallied eight steals and four rebounds.
Corrie Burkhardt (Zanesville, Ohio/Philo) was the only other Pioneer in double figures with 10 points.
Nikki Macke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) pulled down a team-best six boards.
Marisa Liburdi came of the HU bench to score 16 points and grab nine rebounds. Carli Patrick added 12 points and a game-high 14 boards, while Mariah Pearson chipped in with 10 points.
Marietta led 16-12 after the first quarter and took a 28-23 lead into halftime. The Student Princes cut the deficit to four, 41-38, at the end of the third period and then took command in the fourth.
For the game, Marietta shot 30.9% (21-of-68) from the floor, 19.0% (4-of-21) from three-point range and 44.4% (4-of-9) at the charity stripe. The Student Princes were 20-of-56 (35.7%) from the floor, 2-of-12 (16.7%) from three-point land and 19-of-27 (70.4%) at the line.
Heidelberg dominated the boards outrebounding the Pioneers 55-34. Marietta forced 22 Berg turnovers and committed 14.
