Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer dominates Bethany

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College wrapped up the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 3-0 win over Bethany College Wednesday (Sept. 30) afternoon in men's soccer action. The Pioneers head into Ohio Athletic Conference play this weekend with a 5-5 record. Bethany falls to 4-5-1 overall.

Senior Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson) was once again the offensive catalyst for the Pioneers scoring Marietta's first two goals. It was Reasoner's second multi-goal match of the season and third of his career.

Reasoner notched his second game-winning goal of the year with an unassisted score in the 18th minute. After dribbling through the Bison defense, he fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box inside the right post for a 1-0 halftime lead.

Reasoner struck again less than three minutes into the second half. Luke Sanders sent a cross into the six-yard box where Reasoner slipped the ball by the Bethany keeper. Michael Nauls (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal in the 75th minute.

While the Pioneer offense was firing on all cylinders, Marietta's defense was frustrating the Bethany forwards. Anchored by defenders Brent Huck (Marietta/Marietta), Anthon D'Egidio and Andy Rolfes (Cincinnati/Princeton), the Pioneers posted their third clean sheet of the season.

Marietta keeper Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) was there to stop the few shots that Bethany managed to get off. Sholl played all 90 minutes and made three saves. Riley Harrison had a busy day in goal for Bethany recording 11 saves.

Dominating possession from start to finish, Marietta outshot the Bison 30-6. MC's 30 shots were the most for the Pioneers since taking 52 against Penn State Beaver in the 2013 season opener. The Pioneers also held a commanding 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Marietta opens Ohio Athletic Conference play at home on Saturday (Oct. 3) against Wilmington. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Fans can follow all the Pioneer teams all year long at pioneers.marietta.edu.
