Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Reasoner hat trick leads Men's Soccer to 9-0 win over La Roche

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team was the model of efficiency Sunday (Sept. 20) afternoon as the Pioneers shutout La Roche College by the score of 9-0. The Pioneers took 15 shots in the match with nine of them ending up in the Redhawk goal.

Marietta (4-3 overall) struck for two goals in the opening minutes of the match and La Roche was never able to recover. Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson) started the scoring spree with a direct kick from 25-yards out in the third minute. Reasoner fired a bullet from the right wing that snuck inside the left post for the first of his three goals in the match.

Reasoner then picked up the assist on MC's second goal three minutes later. Reasoner crossed the ball to Adam Fox (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) at the top of the 18-yard box who placed a shot into the lower left corner for his first goal of the season.

Andt Rolfes made it 3-0 in the 13th minute. Michael Nauls (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) sent a long through ball to the top of the 18-yard box where Rolfes was waiting. Rolfes placed the ball inside the right post for his third goal of the season.

It only got worse for the Redhawks as Reasoner added two more goals in the first half to complete his first career hat trick. He scored in the 22nd minute with an assist from Adam Fox (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) and then tallied an unassisted goal in the 26th minute.

The Pioneers still weren't done. Ray Rott (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) found the back of the net in the 40th minute off an assist from Dylan Mclean. Then Jake Smith (Arthurdale, W.Va./Preston) made it 7-0 with a goal in the 43rd minute. Rolfes assisted on Smith's goal.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Rott tallied his second goal of the match. Dylan McLean (Carrollton/Carrollton) sent a cross into the 6-yard box where Rott deflected it into the lower left corner. Andi Goreta (Parma/Normandy) got in on the fun with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute.

Marietta used three different goalkeepers in the match. Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) started and played the first half making two saves. Eric Pierce (Marietta/Marietta) and Sebastian Parra (Bexley/Bexley) split the second half, but neither had to make a save.

Spencer Wolfe started in goal for the Redhawks and allowed seven goals in 45 minutes of action. He made one save. Zack Wainwright played the second half and allowed two goals, while making two saves.

For the match, Marietta outshot La Roche 15-8. The corners were even with each team taking four.
