HIRAM, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon to wrap up play in the Hiram College Tournament. The Pioneers lost to Fredonia State 3-0 and then defeated Mount Saint Joseph 3-2.
Marietta (5-5 overall) posted set scores of 25-18, 18-25, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-11 to beat Mount Saint Joseph (5-8 overall).
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) and
Darcy Irish (Lagrange/Keystone) led the Pioneer attack with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Walter committed just two attack errors and finished with a .406 hitting percentage.
Mallory Vodopich (Canton/Massillon Perry) chipped in with nine kills, while
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) added eight. Vodopich and
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) split the setting duties with Vodopich notching 23 assists and Moskaluk finishing with 19 assists.
Libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) recorded a match-high 26 digs along the back line. Ervin was the Pioneers' lone representative on the all-tournament team. Eric Denallo had 22 digs and
Emily Peters (Elyria/Keystone) recorded 13 digs.
Fredonia State (11-2 overall) swept the Pioneers 25-19, 25-14 and 26-24. Denallo paced Marietta with seven kills.
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg/Groveport Madison), Walter and Irish each had five kills.
Mosklauk dished out 20 assists and added three blocks. Ervin and Denallo each posted 15 digs.
Marietta travels from Hiram to Frostburg, Md. for a pair of matches on Sunday (Sept. 20). The Pioneers play La Roche College at 12:00 p.m. and Frostburg State University at 2:00 p.m.
