OBERLIN, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team ran into a buzz saw Friday (Sept. 18) evening as Oberlin College defeated the Pioneers by the score of 8-0. Marietta falls to 0-7 on the season, while Oberlin improves to 3-2-1 overall.
Oberlin scored early and often. Gwennie Gardiner tallied the game winner in the 10th minute. Taylor French added a penalty kick goal in the 13 th minute and Casey McGuire scored the first of her two goals in the 19th minute for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Ellie Huizenga scored 26 seconds into the second half. Tyler Sloan notched a hat trick with goals in the 60th, 67th and 89th minutes. McGuire posted her second goal in the 83rd minute.
Oberlin outshot the Pioneers 30-2 and held a 6-1 advantage in corners. Jordyn Morris started in goal for Oberlin and had one save in the first half. Emma Gordon and Ellie Flessner split the second half in goal.
Sam Kelley (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) and
MaryKate Corum (Cleveland/Normandy) shared the keeping duties for Marietta. Kelley made eight saves for the Pioneers.
