LATROBE, Pa. — The Marietta College women's soccer team was shutout by Saint Vincent College 5-0 Tuesday (Sept. 15) afternoon. The Bearcats improve to 2-4 overall, while the Pioneers slip to 0-6 on the season.
Saint Vincent scored twice in the first eight minutes of the match and led 3-0 at halftime. Meghan Smith scored an unassisted goal in the seventh minute and Natalie Luppold found the back of the net less than two minutes later with an assist from Emily Johns. Maggie Nelson closed out the first half scoring in the 17th minute with a header.
Nelson added a second goal in the 50th minute with an assist from Smith. Smith got back in on the action with her second goal of the match in the 61st minute when she headed home a corner kick from Johns.
Corinne Burk went the distance in goal for the Bearcats making three saves.
Danielle Locher (Madison/Riverside) allowed two goals and made one save in just over 15 minutes of action.
Sam Kelley (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) finished the match in goal and made six saves while allowing three goals.
For the match, Saint Vincent outshot the Pioneers 24-8. The Bearcats held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
