WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Marietta College won a pair of non-conference volleyball matches Friday (Sept. 11) afternoon at Waynesburg University. The Pioneers downed Waynesburg 25-22, 25-18, 17-25 and 25-22 and then swept La Roche College 25-16, 25-18 and 25-17.
Marietta improves to 4-2 on the season. Waynesburg slips to 0-7, while La Roche falls to 3-2 overall.
Against Waynesburg,
Mallory Vodopich (Canton/Massillon Perry) and
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led the Pioneer attack with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) piloted the offense with 21 assists. Libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) added to the MC attack with five service aces.
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) had a match-high 22 digs, while Ervin recorded 18 digs.
Grace Haas (Marietta/Marietta) notched four blocks and
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) had three blocks.
In MC's sweep of La Roche, Walter had a match-best eight kills. Freshman
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg/Groveport Madison) had seven kills and led both teams with a .429 attack percentage. Moskaluk dished out 11 assists with Vodopich and Ervin notching six and four assists, respectively.
Arrowood dominated the net on defense as well with four blocks. Moskaluk finished with 12 digs. Ervin had 11 and Denallo recorded 10 digs.
