Women's Basketball remains perfect with a 67-47 win over Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. — The Marietta College women's basketball never trailed as the Pioneers defeated Centre College 67-47 Saturday (Nov. 21) in the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Centre. The Pioneers improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 1-2 overall.

Marietta scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back. Centre managed to tie the game at 10-10 only to see the Pioneers score the final five points of the first quarter for a 15-10 lead.

The Pioneers slowly pulled away in the second quarter. A three-pointer from Megan Dixon (Londonderry, Ohio/Vinton County) at the 3:16 mark extended the lead to 16 points, 32-16. Marietta took a 32-19 lead into halftime.

Brooke Borich (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) nailed a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter to make it a 20-point game, 56-36. Borich and Amisha Herd (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum) earned all-tournament team honors for the Pioneers. Herd finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Borich added eight points and three assists.

Ashley Frasure (Logan, Ohio/Logan) chipped in with 12 points, six boards and three blocked shots. Freshman Corrie Burkhardt (Zanesville, Ohio/Philo) continues to impress in her rookie season notching eight points eight rebounds. Jo Herd-Middlebrooks (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales) came off the bench to grab a game-high nine rebounds.

Alexis Guy was the lone Colonel in double figures with 16 points. She also notched six rebounds and had five steals.

Marietta shot 42.0% (29-of-69) from the floor, 23.5% (4-of-17) from three-point range and 55.6% (5-of-9) at the line. Centre was 16-of-51 (31.4%) from the floor, 4-of-14 (28.6%) behind the arc and 11-of-19 (57.9%) at the line.

Marietta outrebounded the Colonels 43-37. The Pioneers committed 17 turnovers, while Centre turned the ball over 23 times.
