MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the University of Mount Union Wednesday (Oct. 7) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-12 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Mount Union improves to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in the OAC.
Katie Goedecke tapped in a follow up shot in the 20th minute for Mount Union's first goal of the match. Kelsey Malenic took the first shot that Pioneer keeper
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) got a hand on but Goedecke was there to put away the deflection.
The Purple Raiders added two more first half goals for a 3-0 lead at the break. Malenic scored with an assist from Goedecke in the 23rd minute and Carolyn Balzano tallied her first goal of the season with an assist from Mallory Wall.
Mount Union scored three more in the second half. Goedecke and Malenic each scored a second time, while Nicole Lanese added the final goal of the match.
Marietta took several good shots, including three on goal from
Layne Archer (Duncan Falls/Philo), but Mount keepers Alexis Crawford and Claudia Boryka maintained the clean sheet. Crawford made one save and Boryka had three stops.
Tenney started in goal for the Pioneers and made 12 saves before giving way to
MaryKate Corum (Cleveland/Normandy) for the final 14 minutes.
For the match, Mount Union outshot the Pioneers 29-10. The Purple Raiders took eight corner kicks to three for Marietta.
