ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union defeated Marietta College in straight sets Tuesday (Oct. 6) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball action. The Purple Raiders posted set scores of 30-28, 25-15 and 25-15 to improve to 13-6 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.
Marietta (8-11 overall, 1-1 OAC) failed to convert four set points in the first set before falling 30-28. The Pioneers had a small lead through most of the first frame and held serve at 24-22, 25-24 and 27-26 but couldn't seal the set victory.
The Purple Raiders led the second set from start to finish using a 7-1 run in the early going to take control. Marietta bounced back in the third taking a 10-8 lead. Once again, Mount Union used a big run to pull away. This time, the Raiders took advantage of a 10-1 run to build an 18-11 lead.
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg/Groveport Madison) and
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) each had nine kills for the Pioneers. Arrowood posted a .316 attack percentage to go along with a team-high four blocks.
Mallory Vodopich (Canton/Massillon Perry) had seven kills and 16 assists, while
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) recorded 19 assists and 13 digs.
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) and
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had three blocks each.
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) notched 12 digs and
Emily Peters (Elyria/Keystone) added 10 digs.
