Women's Soccer falls in OAC opener at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Marietta College dropped a 3-1 decision at Wilmington College Saturday (Oct. 3) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The Pioneers slip to 0-11 overall and 0-1 in the OAC, while the Quakers improve to 7-3 on the season and 1-0 in the OAC.

Wilmington controlled the match for the first 45 minutes but had nothing to show for it as the teams were scoreless at halftime. The Quakers outshot Marietta 18-0 in the first half but Pioneer keeper Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) made eight saves to keep WC off the board.

The Pioneers struck first early in the second half. Ali Kowal (Vermilion/Vermilion) went top shelf from 20-yards out in the 49th minute for her second goal of the season. Alyssa Reule leveled the match at 1-1 10 minutes later with an assist from Kayla Marrero.

Wilmington continued to keep the Pioneer defense under pressure taking 20 second-half shots. The Quakers finally slipped another by Tenney in the 83rd minute when Taylor Leake tallied the game winner. Hannah Greaney added an insurance goal with one second left on the clock.

Tenney finished with a career high 18 saves for the Pioneers. Brittany Ross went the distance in goal for Wilmington and made one save.

For the game, the Quakers outshot Marietta 38-2. Wilmington took all seven corner kicks in the match.
