TIFFIN, Ohio — Ohio Athletic Conference leader Heidelberg University defeated Marietta College 3-0 Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon in volleyball action. The Student Princes posted set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12 improving to 20-6 overall and 7-0 in the OAC. Marietta moves to 9-16 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.
The teams traded leads throughout the first set. After an attack error by Heidelberg evened the set at 19-19, the Student Princes tallied six straight points to pull out the first set.
Heidelberg used an 11-1 run midway through the second set to take control of the middle stanza. The Student Princes finished strong grabbing the first seven points of the third set.
Mallory Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) had nine kills to lead the Pioneers.
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) added eight kills and
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) finished with six. Vodopich and
Julia Moskaluk (Copley, Ohio/Revere) split the setting duties with Moskaluk posting 13 assists and Vodopich had 11.
Defensively,
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) had a team-high 13 digs. Moskaluk recorded 12 digs and Vodopich had eight.
