MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team honored seniors
Lauren Morain (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and
Jessica Long (Carroll, Ohio/Bloom-Carroll) prior to hosting Heidelberg University Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon. The Student Princes downed Marietta 3-0 in a rain-soaked match.
Heidelberg (8-9 overall, 3-4 OAC) took just two shots in the first half, but both found the back of the net for a 2-0 Berg lead at halftime. Amanda Kilway scored in the 31st minute with an assist from Danielle Rathfon. Denise Bowes tallied an unassisted goal two minutes later.
Marietta (0-17 overall, 0-7 OAC) had four shots in the match, all of which were on goal. Heidelberg keeper Alexandra Farmer made saves on each of the four MC shots to preserve the clean sheet.
The Student Princes added an insurance goal with the less than two minutes left in the match. Kristen Keenan sent a long through ball to Talia Tobin at the top of the 18-yard box. Tobin collected the pass and lofted the ball into the upper right corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers. Tenney made four saves in the match.
With most of the match played in rain, shots were at a premium. Heidelberg outshot the Pioneers 9-4. The Student Princes also held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.
