HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Marietta College took on the No. 1 ranked volleyball team in the nation Friday (Oct. 2) evening and, despite a solid performance from the Pioneers, lost 3-0. Juniata College posted set scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-22 for the win.
Juniata (16-1 overall) played a consistent match posting 11 kills in each of the first two sets and 12 in the third. The Eagles also recorded 10 service aces in the match.
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) led the Marietta (7-9 overall) attack. Oliver-Smith finished with six kills and only one error for a .625 attack percentage.
Darcy Irish (Lagrange/Keystone) added five kills.
Mallory Vodopich (Canton/Massillon Perry) and
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) split the setting duties. Vodopich dished out 10 assists, while Moskaluk had nine. Libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) had a team-high 12 digs.
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) added 11 digs, while Oliver-Smith notched three blocks.
The Pioneers play a pair of matches Saturday (Oct. 3) in New Jersey. Marietta plays Utica College at 3:00 p.m. and Stevens Tech at 5:00 p.m. Fans can follow all the Pioneer teams all year long at
