UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — John Carroll University swept the Marietta College volleyball team 3-0 Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon. The Blue Streaks posted set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-12 improving to 12-11 on the season and 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta falls to 8-14 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.
John Carroll used a 9-1 run in the first set to take control early in the set. Marietta battled back and got within three points, 12-9, but couldn't hold the momentum. The Blue Streak attack got stronger as the match went on culminating in a .410 team attack percentage in the third set.
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) led Marietta with seven kills, while
Darcy Irish (Lagrange/Keystone) added six kills.
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) and
Mallory Vodopich (Canton/Massillon Perry) split the setting duties and finished with 16 and 10 assists, respectively.
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) posted a team-high 13 digs. Denallo chipped in with 10 digs.
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) recorded four blocks, while
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg/Groveport Madison) had three blocks.
