MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College remained undefeated at home with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Muskingum University Wednesday (Oct. 14) afternoon in men's soccer action. The Pioneers are a perfect 6-0 on their home turf this fall including clean sheets.
With the victory, Marietta improves to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. MC's eight wins are the most for the Pioneers since winning 11 in 2008. The Fighting Muskies fall to 3-10 on the season and 0-4 in the OAC.
Senior forward
Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson) continues to be the catalyst that drives Marietta's offense. The OAC goals and points leader assisted on the first goal of the match and then scored one of own giving him 12 on the season.
The match was scoreless through the first 42 minutes with both teams getting a couple of good scoring opportunities. Marietta keeper
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) made a fantastic save on a header from William Debolt in the 23rd minute. Sholl just got a glove on the shot pushing it wide of the net.
Marietta finally broke through with an aerial assault in the 43rd minute.
Noah Laliberty (Scott Depot, W.Va./Winfield) triggered the attack sending a long ball into the left side of 18-yard box where Reasoner headed the ball towards the goal.
Freshman
Zach Johnson (Beckley, W.Va./Woodrow Wilson) was sitting at the near post and headed the ball to the far side of the six-yard box where
Ray Rott (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) was waiting to finish it off. Rott's header slipped inside the right post for his third goal of the season.
Six minutes into the second half Reasoner doubled Marietta's lead. Johnson sent a through ball into the 18-yard box where Reasoner fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net for the score.
The Pioneers dominated play in the second half taking 16 shots to just three for the Muskies.
Andy Rolfes (Cincinnati/Princeton) added an exclamation point with an unassisted goal in the 88th minute.
Sholl had another strong showing in goal for the Pioneers notching four saves in his fourth shutout of the season. Marietta's starting back line of

Kyle Rosselot (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) and Laliberty frustrated Muskingum's strikers all afternoon.
Daniel Jennings went the distance in goal for Muskingum finishing with six saves.
