NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Muskingum University Tuesday (Oct. 13) evening. Muskingum improves to 2-10-1 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta falls to 0-14 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.
Muskingum keeper Heather Maxwell posted a career-high 10 saves en route to her first clean sheet of her collegiate career. Marietta had its best attacking match since the season-opener firing off 21 shots, including 10 on goal.
After a scoreless first half, the Muskies grabbed the lead in the 51st minute. Miranda Bishop took a pass from Stephanie Siwicki, dribbled through the Pioneer defense and slipped the ball inside the near post for the game-winner.
Layne Archer (Duncan Falls/Philo) led Marietta's attack taking a career-high 11 shots.
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers and made seven saves.
For the match, Muskingum outshot the Pioneers 24-21. But, Marietta held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal. The Muskies took five corner kicks to just two for Marietta.
