NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Muskingum University snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 76-61 victory over visiting Marietta College Wednesday (Jan. 28) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Pioneers slip to 7-11 overall and 3-8 in the OAC, while Muskingum improves to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in league play.
After trading leads over the first eight minutes of the game, Taylor Maurer hit a jumper to put the Muskies in front 10-9 with 12:04 left in the first half. Muskingum would not trail again. The Muskies led 41-29 at halftime.
In the second half Marietta trimmed the deficit to seven points on two occasions but could get no closer. A three-pointer from
Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) with 10:32 made it 56-49. Muskingum answered with seven straight points and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Morgan Liedtke (Lowell/Fort Frye) led Marietta with 14 points. Brogan finished with 13 points.
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) chipped in with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, while
Amisha Herd (Zanesville/West Muskingum) had nine points.
Maurer led Muskingum with 17 points and five steals. Jasmine Goings notched 15 points and six boards and Angela Darnley had 11 points and six assists. Mallory Taylor grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
For the game, Marietta shot 43.1% (22-of-51) from the floor, 26.3% (5-of-19) from three-point range and 80.0% (12-of-15) at the free throw line. Muskingum was 23-of-55 (41.8%) from the floor, 7-of-19 (36.8%) behind the arc and 23-of-26 (88.5%) at the line.
Muskingum outrebounded the Pioneers 33-28. Marietta committed 22 turnovers, while the Muskies turned the ball over 16 times.
