MARIETTA, Ohio — The College of Wooster scored three second half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Marietta College Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon in women's soccer action. The Pioneers slip to 0-4 on the season, while Wooster improves to 4-1 overall.
Katherine Tuttle put the Fighting Scots up in the fifth minute with the first of two goals in the match. Jessica Friesen sent a through ball into the 18-yard box where Tuttle collected the pass and placed the ball into the lower left corner of the net.
Tuttle made it 2-0 less than three minutes into the second half. Carly Joliat crossed the ball to the far post where Tuttle was waiting. Tuttle one-timed the ball past the Marietta keeper for the goal.
Wooster put the match away with two goals from Sophia Garfinkel. Garfinkel scored an unassisted goal in the 76th minute and then tallied the final goal of the match in the 89th minute with an assist from Kennedy Payne.
The Scots outshot Marietta 17-3 for the match and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Carly Eppler and Elizabeth Clark combined on the shutout in goal for Wooster. Clark had one save. Freshman
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) made nine saves in goal for Marietta.
