BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College scored three second half goals to come from behind and defeat Marietta College 3-2 Wednesday (Sept. 10) afternoon in women's soccer action. The Pioneers slip to 0-5 on the season, while Bethany improves to 1-3 overall.
Sophomore
Layne Archer (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo) scored her first career goal in the 32nd minute to give Marietta a 1-0 lead. Archer struck from 12-yards out for the Pioneers' first goal. Marietta took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Bethany responded with three straight goals in the second period. Brittany Fullbright converted a penalty kick to equalize the match in the 52nd minute. Fullbright then assisted Michaela Hinerman on the game winner six minutes later.
The Bison made it 3-1 in the 74th minute. McKenna Junkin drilled a shot from 25-yards out for the tally.
Pioneer senior
Stevie Reilly (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park Senior) notched her first goal of the season in the closing seconds of the match. Reilly scored on a direct kick from 20-yards out for the score.
Bethany outshot Marietta 15-14 for the match and also took six corner kicks to the Pioneers' three. Marietta split the time in goal. Freshman
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) made two saves and allowed two goals, while sophomore
Sam Kelley (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) had a save and one goal allowed. Taylor Sasak had six saves in net for the Bison.
