Game Notes (PDF)MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College hits the road on Saturday (Sept. 20) to take on Otterbein University in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both schools. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals will be celebrating Homecoming and it will be the first game played on the new Crossflex HP turf that was installed over the summer. The new turf was part of a $2.1 million upgrade in the offseason.
Marietta opened the season with a 29-11 come from behind win at Kenyon College two weeks ago. After falling behind 11-0 min the first quarter, the Pioneer defense blanked the Lords the rest of the way while the offense scored 29 unanswered points for the victory.
The Pioneers wracked up 396 yards of total offense while limiting Kenyon to just 172 total yards, including only 29 yards in the second half. Defensive end
Nick Thompson (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording four tackles for a loss, including three quarterback sacks.
Otterbein dropped a hard-fought 36-14 decision at No. 8 ranked St. John Fisher to open the season. The Cardinals trailed by seven at the half and tied the game at 14 early in the third quarter before Fisher closed the game with 22 unanswered points.
Senior quarterback Brick Davis threw for 151 yards completing passes to 10 different receivers. Sophomore running back Reid Hutchinson ran for 148 yards and one touchdown on just nine carries.
Otterbein defeated Marietta 29-21 a year ago in Westerville. The Cardinals scored 20 points in the second quarter to lead 20-7 at the half. Otterbein running back Drew Ervin rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Ben Sizemore three for 171 yards and a score. Marietta was led by running back
Tim Conner's (Cleveland/Glenville) 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
