WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Marietta College junior defensive back
Jonah Asebrook (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday (Nov. 2) afternoon by the league office. Asebrook earned his first career weekly award and became the third different Pioneer to claim the honor this year.
Asebrook led the Marietta defense with 12 tackles, including nine solo tackles, in the Pioneers' 24-13 upset of #24-ranked Heidelberg. He also had a 40-yard touchdown interception return in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. He was a big part of the defense that limited Heidelberg to 70 yards rushing on 35 carries.
Asebrook is currently seventh in the Ohio Athletic Conference with 7.6 tackles per game and fourth in the conference with seven pass breakups.
The Pioneers return to home this Saturday (Nov. 7) for their home finale and will battle Wilmington College. The team will also honor all of their seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
