Men's Basketball posts 78-66 come from behind win over Muskingum

Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Marietta College came from behind to defeat Muskingum University Thursday (Feb. 6) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action. The Pioneers improve to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the OAC. The Muskies fall to 7-13 on the season and 2-11 in the OAC.

The Pioneers were ice cold from the floor in the first half including 0-for-8 from three-point range. Marietta shot just 29% from the floor in the opening period. Muskingum took advantage and led 32-29 at halftime.

Marietta scored the first four points of the second half to grab the lead, 33-32. But the two teams traded the lead over the first eight minutes of the second period. A RaNeal Ewing (Westerville/Dublin Scioto) layup with 10:53 remaining gave the Pioneers the lead, 49-48.

Marietta led the rest of the way. The Pioneers put the game away with a 14-2 run over a three-minute span. Nate Walker (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) hit one of two free throws with 54 seconds left on the clock to put the Pioneers up by 15 points, 78-63.

Ewing led the Pioneers with 23 points and seven rebounds. Garrett Stephenson (West Milton/Milton-Union) scored 18 points, while Brennan McKean (Jeromesville/Northwestern) and Andy Stegman (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg) each chipped in with nine points.

Logan Kimble paced the Muskies with 21 points and seven boards. Cody Seiler finished with 13 points and five rebounds.

Marietta edged Muskingum on the glass, 36-31. The Pioneers forced 18 Muskie turnovers, while committing just nine.

For the game, Marietta shot 43.3% (26-of-60) from the floor, 14.3% (2-of-14) from three-point range and 80.0% (24-of-30) at the line. Muskingum was 24-of-52 (46.2%) from the floor, 6-of-17 (35.3%) behind the arc and 12-of-16 (75.0%) at the line.
