Booth and Alexander lead Women's Basketball over Muskingum 75-57

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team defeated rival Muskingum University by the score of 75-57 Wednesday (Dec. 3) evening in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The Pioneers improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Muskies fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

Senior Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) recorded her first double-double of the season to lead the Pioneers. Booth finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Fellow senior Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) chipped in with 14 points and seven boards. Freshman Ashley Frasure (Logan/Logan) blocked six Muskie shots, while Amisha Herd (Zanesville/West Muskingum) grabbed eight rebounds and tossed in six points.

Angela Darnley led four Muskies in double figures with 13 points. She also pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Mallory Taylor, Olivia Besancon and Jasmine Goings each finished with 10 points.

The Pioneers scored the first six points of the game and held the lead for over 39 minutes. Muskingum's only lead of the game, 25-24, came on a jumper from Leigha Moran with 4:29 left in the first half. Marietta led by eight, 33-25, at the half.

Marietta's lead hovered between four and eight points through the first seven minutes of the second half. The Pioneers pushed the margin to double digits, 45-35, on a layup from freshman Brooke Borich (Beverly/Fort Frye) with 12:06 remaining.

A 9-2 run late in the second half gave the Pioneers their biggest lead of the game, 73-55, with 3:04 left on the clock.

For the game, Marietta shot 42.1% (32-of-76) from the floor, 30.0% (3-of-10) from three-point range and 50.0% (8-of-16) at the free throw line. Muskingum was 21-of-58 (36.2%) from the floor, 3-of-12 (25.0%) from three-point range and 12-of-16 (75.0%) at the line.

Marietta held a decisive 54-36 advantage on the boards. The Pioneers forced 13 Muskingum turnovers, while committing just eight.
