TIFFIN, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball lost at Heidelberg University by the score of 73-65 Saturday (Dec. 13) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Pioneers fall to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the OAC. Heidelberg is 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in the OAC.
Marietta scored the first six points of the game only to see the Student Princes tally eight in row to take an early 8-6 lead. The game remained close throughout the first half as neither team led by more than four points. A three-pointer from HU's Shelby Dearth late in the period sent the game into halftime tied, 32-32.
The Pioneers started the second half like they did the first, scoring the first six points. Heidelberg again answered with a run of its own to regain the lead, 41-40, with 14:14 left on the clock.
Follwing a
Jordanna Rauch (Fleming/Warren) layup that tied the game, 56-56, with 5:18 remaining, the Student Princes went on an 11-1 run to build their biggest lead of the game, 67-57, with 1:30 left in the game. Marietta was forced to foul down the stretch and Heidelberg converted 6-of-7 free throws to secure the victory.
Senior
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) led the Pioneers with 16 points and five rebounds. Freshman
Ashley Frasure (Logan/Logan) added eight points, while Rauch and freshman
Amisha Herd (Zanesville/West Muskingum) each chipped in with seven.
Marisa Liburdi came off the bench and scored 18 points to pace the Heidelberg attack. Carli Patrick notched a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
For the game, Marietta was 27-of-70 (38.6%) from the floor, 4-of-13 (30.8%) from three-point range and 7-of-8 (87.5%) at the free throw line. Heidelberg shot 52.3% (23-of-44) from the floor, 50.0% (5-of-10) behind the arc and 71.0% (22-of-31) at the line.
Heidelberg outrebounded the Pioneers 39-33. Marietta forced 19 Student Prince turnovers, while committing just eight.
