Baldwin Wallace downs Women's Basketball 73-62

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team lost to Baldwin Wallace University by the score of 73-62 Wednesday (Dec. 17) evening in Ban Johnson Arena. The Pioneers are 4-5 on the season and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin Wallace improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.

Senior Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) led the Pioneers with 14 points and pulled down five rebounds. Sophomore Jordanna Rauch (Fleming/Warren) tossed in a career-best 13 points. Senior Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) and freshman Ashley Frasure (Logan/Logan) grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

Mackenzie Colombo led four Yellow Jackets in double figures with 16 points. Audrey Smolik notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Alissa Munro scored 15 points, while Sydney Clark added 12 points.

The Pioneers led by as many as seven points in the first half and took a 31-26 lead into halftime. Colombo scored the first four points of the second half to bet BW within one, 31-30, 37 seconds into the period.

Baldwin Wallace tied the game at 33-33 and took the lead for good on a pair of free throws from Clark at the 17:04 mark. The Yellow Jackets outscored Marietta 47-31 in the second period to wipe out the Pioneers' halftime lead.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as many as 17 points, 61-44, with 8:47 remaining. Marietta battled back with a 14-2 run to get within five, 63-58, at the 2:44 mark. But BW hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

For the game, Marietta shot 36.8% (25-of-68) from the floor, 21.1% (4-of-19) from three-point range and 53.3% (8-of-15) at the free throw line. Baldwin Wallace was 25-of-64 (39.1%) from the floor, 5-of-17 (29.4%) behind the arc and 18-of-22 (81.8%) at the line.

The Yellow Jackets outrebounded Marietta 45-43. Each team committed 13 turnovers.
