MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College's bid for a 15th Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot title came up short Sunday (Nov. 30) afternoon as Carnegie Mellon won the 30th annual event by the score of 62-57. It was the Tartans' third Turkey Shoot crown as CMU won in 1994 and 2001.

Carnegie Mellon improves to 7-1 on the season, while Marietta slips to 3-2 overall.

Lisa Murphy, winner of the Lisa Wagner Most Valuable Player Award, poured in 25 points and grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds to lead the Tartans. She was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Lindsay Poss who finished with seven points and five boards.

Freshman Brooke Borich (Beverly/Fort Frye) was the lone Pioneer in double figures with 10 points. Senior Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) chipped in with nine points and six rebounds to earn all-tournament honors.

Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn), Jordanna Rauch (Fleming/Warren) and Amish Herd each had eight points in the game for the Pioneers. Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) grabbed six rebounds.

The teams traded the lead throughout the first half with CMU building a seven point lead on a layup from Murphy with 5:38 left in the half. The Pioneers battled back and finished the half with a 13-6 run to knot the score at 29 heading into halftime.

Carnegie Mellon used a 20-6 run in the middle of the second half to build a 13 point lead, 55-42, with 6:42 left in the game. A jumper from Booth at the 1:27 mark cut the margin to six, 57-51, but the Pioneers could get no closer.

For the game, Marietta shot a cool 27.4% (20-of-73) from the floor, 25.0% (4-of-16) from three-point range and 61.9% (13-of-21) at the line. Carnegie Mellon was 20-of-54 (37.0%) from the floor, 3-of-12 (25.0%) behind the arc and 19-of-27 (70.4%) at the line.

Denison University defeated Miami University Middletown 77-54 in the consolation game. Jordan Holmes and Kellie Arter represented Denison on the all-tournament team, while Middletown's Shaeyla Givens earned all-tourney honors.
