PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Marietta College Men's Basketball team opened a six-game road stretch with a 66-51 win at LaRoche College Saturday (Nov. 29). Three Pioneers scored in double figures as the Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the season. LaRoche falls to 0-3 overall.
Senior post player
Garrett Stephenson (West Milton/Milton-Union) scored 12 points in the first half and finished with 16 points to lead the Pioneers. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Andy Dollman (Vienna, W.Va./Parkersburg) was 6-for-8 from the floor and had 15 points on the night. Junior
Luis Garcia (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds. Junior
Eddy Grenert (Wooster/Triway) had seven points and three steals, while sophomore
Keith Richardson (Englewood/Northmont) added eight points.
Marietta pounded the ball inside all afternoon scoring 48 points in the paint. LaRoche edged the Pioneers on the glass, 29-26. It was the first time this season that Marietta didn't win the battle of the boards.
The Pioneers never trailed in the game and took a 34-25 lead into halftime. Marietta extended the margin to double digits for most of the second half and led by as many as 16 points, 60-44, with 6:49 left in the game.
For the game, Marietta was 27-of-53 (50.9%) from the floor, 2-of-12 (16.7%_ from three-point range and 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw line. LaRoche shot 37.3% (19-of-51) from the floor, 15.8% (3-of-19) behind the arc and 58.8% (10-of-17) at the charity stripe.
Marietta forced 15 Redhawk turnovers, while committing just eight.
The Pioneers are off until next Saturday (Nov. 29) when Marietta travels to Westminster College for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
