MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College scored three goals in an eight-minute span of the first half en route to a 4-0 win against the University of Mount Union Wednesday (Oct. 8) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Pioneers are currently 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders fall to 6-5 on the season and 0-2 in the OAC.
Sophomore
Michael Nauls (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) was credited with the game-winning goal as he tallied his first goal of the season. Nauls collected a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and launched a shot into the upper left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead just 13:48 into the match.
The Pioneers continued to dominate possession in the opening period and finished the half with a 12-6 edge in shots. Junior
Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson), with an assist from
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta), made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute. Less than five minutes later he scored again, this time with assists from
Brent Huck (Marietta/Marietta) and
Boyd Kirk (Akron/Green).
Senior
Payton Blair (Ironton/St. Joseph Central Catholic) got in on the action with his first goal of the season. Blair scored an unassisted goal in the 40th minute to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead at halftime.
For the match, Marietta outshot Mount Union 15-12. The Pioneers took five corner kicks to four for the Purple Raiders.
Sophomore keeper
Sebastian Parra (Bexley/Bexley) got his first shutout of the season. Parra made seven saves in the match. The Pioneers' back line of Kirk,
Tyler Bro (Parkersburg, W.Va.),
Dragan Mijatovic (Akron/Coventry) and
Robert Felton (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsly School) limited Mount Union's scoring opportunities as Marietta got its second clean sheet of the season.
