WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team defeated Wilmington College by the score of 3-2 Saturday (Oct. 4) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Pioneers improve to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while Wilmington falls to 5-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in the OAC.
Senior
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) staked the Pioneers to an early lead with a lightning quick goal less than two minutes into the match. He made it 2-0 in favor of Marietta with his second unassisted goal in the 28th minute. Riley leads the Pioneers with nine goals on the season.
The Quakers cut the lead in half when they were issued a penalty kick in the 31st minute. Daniel Wicks converted the penalty making it 2-1 heading into halftime.
Three minutes into the second half Wilmington leveled the match at 2-2. Wicks picked up the assist as Evan Schlagetter scored the equalizer.
The match remained tied until the 83rd minute. Pioneer junior
Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson) beat Wilmington's keeper to score the game winner. It was Reasoner's second goal of the season.
Freshman keeper
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) picked up the win in goal for the Pioneers. Sholl notched nine saves in the victory. RJ Mancini had four saves in goal for the Quakers.
For the match, Wilmington outshot Marietta 18-12 and also had an 11-7 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers took five corner kicks, while the Quakers had two.
