Volleyball finishes non-conference slate with a split

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team split a pair of matches against teams from the North Coast Athletic Conference Saturday (Oct. 25) afternoon. The Pioneers defeated Allegheny College 3-1 and lost to No. 4 ranked Wittenberg University 3-0. Marietta is currently 10-17 on the season.

Marietta posted set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-15 in the victory over Allegheny (16-12 overall). Three Pioneers had double digit kills in the match. Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) notched a double double with 14 kills and 18 digs.

Middle blocker Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) had a match-high 19 kills to go along with three blocks and a .311 attack percentage, while freshman Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) finished with 10 kills. Senior setter Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) dished out 50 assists.

Defensively, sophomore Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) recorded 27 digs and libero Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) had 26 digs.

Wittenberg (21-3 overall) swept the Pioneers in three sets 25-17, 25-10 and 25-20. The Tigers hit .210 as a team and finished with seven total blocks.

Denallo and junior Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led the Marietta attack with eight and six kills, respectively. Mauer finished with 22 assists and 11 digs, while Ervin had a team-high 18 digs.

Marietta hosts Otterbein University, currently tied for first place in the OAC, in its home finale on Tuesday (Oct. 28) at 7:00 p.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at pioneers.marietta.edu.
