NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Marietta College picked up a key Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball victory over rival Muskingum University Tuesday (Oct. 14) evening. The Pioneers beat the Muskies 3-1 to improve to 9-14 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. Muskingum falls to 15-11 on the season and 1-3 in the OAC.
The Pioneers won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-22. Muskingum bounced back to take the third set, 25-22, only to watch Marietta seal the victory with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
Junior middle blocker
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) dominated play at the net on offense and defense. Janson had a match-high 14 kills and a .316 attack percentage. She also posted six blocks, including four solo rejections.
Marietta was deadly with the serve posting 13 service aces in the match. Junior libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) finished with five aces and 41 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) chipped in with four aces and 15 digs.

Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) and freshman
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) each had nine kills, while juniors
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) and
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had seven kills apiece. Clyde had 18 digs, while Denallo added 13 digs and three blocks.
Senior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) piloted the Pioneer attack. Mauer dished out 45 assists and chipped in with 19 digs.
