Men's Soccer hooks the Muskies

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team blanked rival Muskingum University by the score of 2-0 Tuesday (Oct. 14) evening. The Pioneers improve to 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and 5-7 overall. Muskingum drops to 4-10 on the season and 0-4 in league play.

The Pioneers dominated play in the first half taking 11 shots to the Muskies' two. Junior Luke Saunders (Groveport/Groveport Madison) beat Muskingum's keeper in the 42nd minute to put Marietta in front, 1-0. Freshman Robert Felton (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsly School) sent a long free kick into the box where Saunders collected the pass and fired inside the near post for his first goal of the season.

Marietta added an insurance goal in the 75th minute. Senior Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) tossed a perfect throw in to junior Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson) in the box. Reasoner put the ball in the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

With the offense scoring a goal in each half, the Pioneer defense posted its third clean sheet of the fall. Sophomore keeper Sebastian Parra (Bexley/Bexley) recorded three saves en route to his second shutout of the year. Marietta's starting back line included Boyd Kirk (Akron/Green), Dragan Mijatovic (Akron/Coventry), Tyler Bro (Parkersburg, W.Va.) and Felton.

For the match, Marietta outshot Muskingum 20-8. The Pioneers took three corner kicks, while the Muskies took two. Muskingum keeper Eric Riley finished with four saves.
