MARIETTA, Ohio — After a scoreless first half, Baldwin Wallace University scored six goals in a 20-minute span to defeat Marietta College 6-1 Friday (Oct. 10) afternoon in women's soccer action. The Yellow Jackets improve to 7-6-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta falls to 1-11-11 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.
The Pioneers dominated possession in the first half and controlled the tempo of the match. However, both defense's held firm and the match remained scoreless at halftime.
Kori Miller came off the bench to score the first goal of the match in the 54th minute. Kelly Gough fired a shot that was blocked by the Marietta keeper and Miller was there to put the follow-up shot in the back of the net.
Gough made it 2-0 in the 56th minute with n assist from Courtney Schutz. The Yellow Jackets were awarded a direct kick 25-yards out and Schutz tapped the ball to Gough who riffled it in for the score.
In the 61st minute, Miller lofted a shot over the outstretched hands of the keeper for her second goal of the match.
The Pioneers got on the board in the 65th minute.
Sydney Willis (Moreland Hills/Orange) sent a cross into the 18-yard box where
Layne Archer (Duncan Falls/Philo) collected it and fired the ball into the lower left corner of the net. The goal was Archer's fourth of the season.
BW got a pair of goals from Cheryl Bell in a span of 85 seconds to put the match away. The Yellow jackets' final goal came in the 74th minute from Alex Elliot.
For the match, Baldwin Wallace outshot the Pioneers 19-12. The Yellow Jackets took five corner kicks, while Mariieta took two.
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) started in goal for the Pioneers and made six saves.
Sam Kelley (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) played the last 30 minutes and had one save.
Emily Tallmadge started in goal for BW and recorded six saves. Gabrielle Bodo had two saves in just under 11 minutes of playing time.
