ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference matches Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon. The Pioneers dropped a hard-fought 3-2 match to Bluffton University and then was swept 3-0 by Geneva College (Pa.).
Bluffton (8-10 overall) posted set scores of 18-23, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20 and 15-13 to beat the Pioneers.
Sophomores
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) and
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) each had 13 kills to lead the Marietta (9-11) attack. Junior
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) added nine kills and set a new school record with 12 block assists in the match.

Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) dished out 37 assists and had six blocks. Sophomore libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) had 24 digs, while senior
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) had 11 and Clyde chipped in with 10.
Geneva (13-6) swept the Pioneers 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19.
Horton had seven kills to lead the Pioneers. Mauer had 18 assists and Ervin recorded 16 digs in the match.
Marietta returns home next Saturday (Oct. 5) to host a tri-match. The Pioneers open Ohio Athletic Conference play against Heidelberg at 12:00 p.m. and then play West Liberty (W.Va.) at 4:30 p.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
