MARIETTA, Ohio – In a battle of the top two teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, No. ranked Marietta College once again proved it is the team to beat with a doubleheader sweep of Baldwin Wallace University Saturday (April 27) at Don Schaly Stadium.
Playing in front of a full house for the 15th annual Community Day, the Etta Express dominated the Yellow Jackets winning 6-0 and 10-1. Marietta improves to 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace falls to 23-10 on the season and 10-6 in league play.
Senior center fielder
Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg) lined a two-out shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning of game one to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
That would be all the offense Marietta would need as freshman
Jason Byers (East Granby, Conn./East Granby) (5-2) proceeded to toss a compete-game shutout. Byers scattered four hits while walking four and striking out one BW hitter.
Sophomore
Chris Winpigler (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) got his first start of the season and went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in from the designated hitter position. Winpigler drove in runs with a triple in the third inning and a single in the fifth.
Senior Pat Havens (7-3) started on the mound for BW and was tagged with the loss. Havens threw 5.2 innings and gave up six runs on 10 base hits. He walked one and struck out two.

Alex Toth (Painesville/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) each collected two hits in the game for Marietta.
Defenseive miscues cost the Yellow Jackets in the second game. Only four of Marietta's 10 runs in the game were earned.
The Pioneers jumped on top in the second inning. Toth led off with a double into the right-center gap and moved to third on an infield ground out. Sophomore
Mitch Geers (West Chester/Lakota East) knocked in Toth with a sharply hit ground ball to the first baseman.
Marietta added three runs on the fourth and two more in the sixth. Baldwin wallace's lone run of the day came on a solo home run off the bat of senior center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer in the sixth inning.
Senior
Mike Mulvey (7-2) cruised to his seventh victory of the season pitching 8.0 innings. Mulvey allowed five hits and struck out four. Sophomore
Anthony Knittel (Stout/Portsmouth West) was perfect in the ninth inning.
BW senior David Redovian (4-1) took the loss. Redovian started and pitched 6.0 innings. He allowed six runs, three earned, on just four hits. Redovian walked two and struck out five.
Toth and sophomore shortstop
Christian Demko (Xenia/Bellbrook) had two hits apiece in the game for the Pioneers. Toth had a double and scored three times. Sophomore
Ryan Hanahan (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) hit his first career home run, a solo shot in the eighth inning.
Marietta is off until next weekend when the Pioneers will play five games in three days at Don Schaly Stadium. Marietta closes out OAC play on Friday (May 3) with a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader with Wilmington College.
Case Western Reserve University comes to town on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. twinbill, while the Etta Express hosts Frostburg State on Sunday for a single nine-inning game at 3:00 p.m.
