MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College scored the first 17 points of the match as the Pioneers swept Wilmington College 3-0 Saturday (Oct. 27) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball action.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) served 16 straight points during Marietta's first set run. She finished the match with four service aces. The Pioneers (12-15 overall, 2-5 OAC) had an impressive .360 attack percentage as they won the opening set 25-5.
Head coach Ray Costa used his entire bench in the second and third sets, which the Pioneers won 25-15 and 25-17, respectively. Marietta collected 41 kills and seven team blocks in the match.
Junior middle blocker
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) led the Pioneers with eight kills, seven blocks and a .538 attack percentage. Sophomores
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) and
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) each had seven kills off the bench.
Junior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) had seven assist in the first set, while freshman
Julia Moskaluk (Copley, Ohio/Revere) handle the setting duties in the final two sets and recorded 22 assists.
Defensively, sophomore libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) had a team-best 14 digs. Clyde chipped in with 10 digs.
