WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The No. 17 ranked Otterbein University volleyball team defeated Marietta College 3-0 Tuesday (Nov. 2) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Cardinals posted set scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-13.
Otterbein improves to 24-6 overall and 6-2 in the OAC. Marietta is now 12-16 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.
Marietta jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the first set but Otterbein quickly responded. The Cardinals won the next seven points for a 12-8 advantage and never trailed the rest of the set.
The final two sets played out in similar fashion as the Cardinals built an early lead and then gradually pulled away for the win. Otterbein's offensive attack was impressive hitting a blistering .467 in the third set.
Sophomore
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) led the Pioneers with seven kills. Junior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) recorded 17 assists, while senior defensive specialist
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) had a team-best 11 digs.
