MARIETTA, Ohio – Ohio Northern University spoiled Marietta College Women's Soccer Senior Day with a 2-0 win over the Pioneers Saturday (Oct. 19) afternoon. The Polar Bears move to 7-6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta is now 2-12 on the season and 0-5 in league play.
Ohio Northern scored a goal in each half for the win. Senior Abbie Schauble put the Polar Bears on the board in the 13th minute. Schauble took a pass from Abby Vargo and shot the ball into the upper left corner of the net.
Junior Kristina Klusek made it 2-0 with a goal in the 63rd minute. Sami Atkinson sent a long pass to Klusek who created a one-on-one with the keeper. Klusek floated the ball into the upper right corner of the net for the goal.
While the offense was able to tally a pair of goals, the ONU defense was smothering the Pioneer attack. The Polar Bears limited Marietta to only two shots in the match.
Sophomore Emily Brodict went the distance in goal for ONU and made one save. Senior
Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) handled the keeper duties for Marietta and made 12 stops on the day.
For the match, Ohio Northern outshot the Pioneers 24-2. The Polar Bears held a huge 16-1 advantage in corner kicks.
