COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University defeated Marietta College by the score of 5-0 Tuesday (Oct. 22) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the OAC.
Capital (11-4-1, 4-2 OAC) got four first half goals from senior Hilary Ells. Ells found the back of the net in the 11th, 13th, 29th and 31st minutes. Freshman Claire Quinn assisted on the first goal, while freshman Becca Cartmill picked up assists on the next two.
The Crusaders dominated play in the first 45 minutes taking 17 shots and allowing Marietta just three. Capital also took seven corner kicks in the opening period.
The second half was a defensive struggle as the teams combined for only eight shots in the period. Capital freshman Jackie Kelly scored her first collegiate goal in the 85th minute to push the Crusader lead to 5-0.
Senior keeper
Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) made eight saves in net for the Pioneers. Capital split the goal keeping duties with Maggie Donnellan playing the first half and Kim Leitch the second. Donnellan had three saves in the match and Leitch had one.
For the match, Capital outshot the Pioneers 22-6. The Crusaders ended with 10 corner kicks, while Marietta had none.
