Muskingum earns 4-2 victory over Women's Soccer

MARIETTA, Ohio – Muskingum University scored twice in each half to defeat Marietta College 4-2 Wednesday (Oct. 16) afternoon in women's soccer action. The Fighting Muskies improve to 8-4-2 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. Marietta drops to 2-11 and 0-4 OAC.

Muskingum forward Moriah Mathies took a pass from Morgan Price and fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box for the first goal of the game in the 11th minute.

Senior Raven Francis made it 2-0 nine minutes later. With the ball loose in front of the Marietta goal, Francis slipped the ball into the lower left corner for her sixth goal of the season.

The Pioneers cut the lead in half with a goal in the 38th minute. Senior Mattie Stowell (Ashtabula/Lakeside) sent a through ball into the 18-yard box to junior Stevie Reilly (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park Senior). Reilly placed the ball into the upper right corner for the goal.

The second half mirrored the first with the Muskies scoring the first two foals of the period. Sophomore Summer Setliff scored with an assist from Mathies in the 53rd minute followed by Lauren Hambel's first goal of the season in the 73rd minute.

Reilly scored an unassisted goal in the 78th minute to account for the final 4-2 score. Reilly collected a loos ball in the open field and lofted a shot over the keeper from just outside the 18-yard box. Reilly leads Marietta with five goals on the season.

Senior keeper Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) played all 90 minutes in goal for Marietta and made a season-high 10 saves. Muskingum junior Melissa Emmerich had four saves before giving way to freshman Liz Mitchell who made two stops.

For the match, Marietta took 20 shots to 18 for Muskingum. The Muskies earned eight corner kicks, while the Pioneers had one.
