MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College dropped a 3-1 decision to John Carroll University Friday (Oct. 11) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball action. The Pioneers fall to 10-13 overall and 0-3 in the OAC. John Carroll improves to 14-7 and 2-1 OAC.
Trailing 20-13 in the opening set, the Blue Streaks went on an 8-1 run to tie the score at 21-21. JCU then won five of the next eight points to grab the first set 26-24.
John Carroll took the second set 25-14 before falling in the third 23-25. The Blue Streaks sealed the victory with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
Freshman Leah Switalski led the Blue Streaks with 11 kills. Teresa Noewer, the one senior on JCU's roster, added 10 kills and four blocks. Freshman Maddie McDowell chipped in with nine kills and four blocks.
Sophomore
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) paced Marietta with nine kills and four blocks. Senior
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) and sophomore
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) each had seven kills for the Pioneers. Janson and junior
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) had six blocks apiece.
Junior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) recorded 31 assists, five blocks and 11 digs. Sophomore libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) notched 29 digs and senior defensive specialist
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) added 20 digs.
