Men's Basketball stung by hot shooting Yellow Jackets

Box Score BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University scored two points before the opening tip and never trailed as the Yellow Jackets defeated Marietta College 94-71 in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday (Jan. 5) afternoon. The Pioneers (9-4 overall, 5-1 OAC) were charged with an administrative technical foul prior to the start of the game.

Baldwin Wallace (9-4, 4-2 OAC) proved why it is so difficult to win on the road in the OAC The Yellow Jackets built an 11-point halftime lead, 46-35, on the strength of a 53.1% shooting performance. BW hit 17-of-32 from the floor including 6-of-12 from three-point range.

Any hopes Marietta had of getting back in the game after halftime were dashed by the Yellow Jackets even hotter shooting in the second period. Baldwin Wallace shot an incredible 70.4% from the floor connecting on 19-of-27 attempts.

Seniors Jason Humphrey (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) and #J.J. Martin# led Marietta with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Matt Napier (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) also tallied 10 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds.

Baldwin Wallace senior Chris Ameen led all scorers with 18 points and recorded seven rebounds. Junior Kyle Payne scored 17 points and classmate Kevin Krakowiak had 15. Senior Ben Umbel had a game-high eight boards.

For the game, Marietta shot 45.9% (28-of-61) from the floor, 36.4% (4-of-11) from three-point range and 68.8% (11-of-16) at the line. Baldwin Wallace hit an impressive 36-of-59 (61.0%) from the floor, 10-of-20 (50.0%) behind the arc and 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.

The Yellow Jackets held a decisive 38-24 advantage on the boards. Baldwin Wallace turned the ball over 12 times to just 10 for the Pioneers.
